Acquiring German Nationality
Dormagen's New Citizens Celebrate!
A joyous gathering took place in Dormagen's Cultural Hall recently, as nine individuals, hailing from diverse corners of the globe, marked their newfound German citizenship. The ever-affable Mayor Erik Lierenfeld was there to extend a hearty welcome. These proud new citizens made a solemn commitment in front of about 60 guests, with Lierenfeld presenting them with their naturalization certificates and offering his profound congratulations on their standout decision. The assembly then joined voices in unison to sing the German national anthem, accompanied by the Dormagen Volunteer Fire Department's music band.
During the ceremony, Lierenfeld highlighted his delight that these individuals had chosen to embrace German citizenship. As he put it, "Becoming German isn't merely a symbolic act or a matter of acquiring a passport or certificate. It signifies recognition, belonging to a community founded upon values like freedom, tolerance, and equality."
Post the official ceremony, the new citizens celebrated this momentous occasion with friends and family. The event also extended a warm invite to those who had become German citizens in Dormagen throughout the second half of 2023. In total, there were 157 new citizens in 2023, with the previous year seeing 143 new faces.
The music band treated everyone to the rhythmic melodies of Rhineland classics, while a dance group from the "Hip Swing" dance school added a lively touch to the festivities with Black Fōss performances.
