Affordable Housing Site for Upper-Class Residences Launches in Bradford
In the heart of Bradford, a significant milestone has been reached in the city's affordable housing efforts with the official opening of the One Meadow development. This £5 million project, located on Victoria Road, two miles from the city centre, is a testament to the collaborative spirit between Manningham Housing Association (MHA), Zentra Group, Homes England, and Bradford Council.
One Meadow, a mix of semi-detached and detached houses, plus a townhouse, was brought to life by the Zentra Group, with properties constructed by Jack Lunn Construction. MHA played a central role in the scheme, providing financial support and working closely with its partners. The development aims to provide fully affordable social housing that meets the needs of the Eccleshill ward community.
MHA, founded in 1986 to support the BME community living in unsuitable accommodation and chronic conditions, has grown significantly over the years. Today, it manages 1,400 homes, including the 24 properties at One Meadow. Councillor Ian Paterson of Bradford Council praised the quality of the homes and affirmed ongoing support for similar initiatives.
The homes at One Meadow boast a reduced carbon footprint and are expected to achieve a minimum energy performance rating of B or higher, reflecting a commitment to environmentally friendly standards. Rupert Pometsey, chair of MHA, attributes the success of the development to his team.
Barrington Billings, former president of the Chartered Institute of Housing, was honoured to be present at the opening of the One Meadow development. He believes that MHA has won many awards in recognition of the hard work that has been done and expressed hope that MHA continues to have lots more developments. The final five homes in the One Meadow development were purchased by MHA last month for a total of £1.1m.
One Meadow is a notable example of successful affordable housing development, providing much-needed homes for the community and demonstrating the power of partnership and collaboration. The development is expected to make a significant impact on addressing local housing needs in Bradford.
