Afternoon sessions open for social purposes

In the chilly winter months, the city of Pforzheim is witnessing a heartwarming initiative by local Christian churches. The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Gemeinden (ACG) has organised a series of open afternoons and evenings, providing free warm meals and a sense of community to those in need.

The programme, which runs on six winter Sundays and includes a special event on Christmas Eve, aims to address the social needs of the city's residents. Many people in Pforzheim struggle with basic necessities such as a roof over their heads or sufficient money, and these gatherings offer more than just a meal. They provide a warm environment, a chance to socialise, and an opportunity to converse.

The events are open to all, regardless of age or circumstances. Whether you're a pensioner, a person with disabilities, single, homeless, or simply seeking companionship, you're welcome to attend. The upcoming open afternoons will take place at various locations, including the Evangelisch-methodistische Kirche, St. Antonius, the Evangelisch-Lutherische Gemeinde, Vesperkirche in the Stadtkirche Pforzheim, and the Caritasverband, among others.

For a complete schedule of these events, you can refer to the website calendars of the participating churches. Alternatively, you can visit community bulletin boards or contact the Pforzheim city community center or religious council for more information.

The first open afternoon of this winter, held on 7th January 2024, served 120 warm meals consisting of meatballs, potato salad, and Maultaschen. The next gathering is scheduled for 14th January 2024, starting at 1:00 PM at the Evangelisch-methodistische Kirche.

On Christmas Eve, there will be an open evening at the Diakonie Pforzheim in the Haus der Evangelischen Kirche from 1:30 PM. The Neuapostolische Kirche Brötzingen will host an open afternoon on 10th March 2024 at 2:00 PM, marking the end of this winter's series of events.

These open afternoons and evenings are more than just a meal; they are a beacon of hope and companionship in the cold winter months, offering a warm welcome to all who need it.

The upcoming winter's series of open events in Pforzheim, promoting a sense of community and warm companionship, not only provides free home-cooked meals but also serves as a perfect setting for home-and-garden talk and lifestyle advice. Participants can discuss tips on creating a cozy home environment during the chilly months, share gardening ideas for the upcoming spring season, and exchange thoughts on maintaining a fulfilling lifestyle through these gatherings.
