Alpacas add a burst of cheer at the BRK Senior Center

In a heartwarming event at the Seniorenzentrum Regenstauf, seniors were treated to a unique and beneficial experience: a visit from a family of gentle alpacas. Christian Karl, the centre's manager, shared that the animal visit had a noticeably positive effect on the well-being of those present.

The alpacas, which hail from Danersdorf, were brought to the senior center by Sandra Grundner, a dedicated alpaca breeder since 2017. Ms. Grundner, who knows her alpacas well, was invited by Mr. Karl to share her Alpaca family with the seniors.

During the visit, the seniors had the opportunity to stroke, observe, or simply enjoy the presence of these charming animals. The presence of the alpacas created a calm and joyful atmosphere, providing a welcome respite from daily stresses.

This special human-animal experience offered numerous benefits to the seniors. Interaction with the alpacas stimulated positive feelings, reducing stress and anxiety levels. The seniors also engaged in conversations and physical touch while caring for or simply spending time near the alpacas, fostering social interaction and communication.

Alpaca therapy is part of a broader trend of animal-assisted interventions in elder care. These interventions aim to enhance overall well-being, improve quality of life, and foster meaningful connections. The benefits of alpaca therapy for senior well-being include emotional comfort and stress relief, social interaction and communication stimulation, and even physical benefits such as encouraging light physical activity.

The visit of the Alpaca family was a resounding success, and the BRK team extended their gratitude to the Grundner family for their cooperation. Although the specific details of the Seniorenzentrum Regenstauf visit are not directly described, alpacas, being naturally shy but allowing closeness with a calm approach, provided a memorable and meaningful experience for all involved.
