Appreciation for Tending to the Garden!

The city of Mannheim recently hosted an award ceremony for its annual Flower Decoration and Allotment Garden Competitions, held at the Baumhain Hall of the Luisenpark. The event, organised by the Mannheim City Spaces Service, was presented for the first time by the VR Bank Rhein-Neckar.

This year, four to six associations participated in the Allotment Garden Competition, with Staudenweg, Kirchwald (both from Waldhof), Vogelstang, Wilde Au (Feudenheim), Im Rott (Kafertal), and Schönau-Nord being this year's participants. In the Allotment Garden Competition, Staudenweg took first place, followed by Vogelstang in second place. Wilde Au and Kirchwald were tied for third place.

The Flower Decoration Competition, which aims to encourage more people to garden in the city, saw Staudenweg, Kirchwald (both from Waldhof), Vogelstang, Wilde Au (Feudenheim), Im Rott (Kafertal), and Schönau-Nord also competing. "Im Rott" placed fifth, and Schönau-Nord finished in sixth place.

Participants in the Flower Decoration Competition receive various prizes, including restaurant vouchers, vouchers for Mannheim nurseries, and tickets for the Capitol event venue. The winner of the main prize will have a tree planted in their name by the Mannheim City Spaces Service in a public park, along with a large insect hotel as a gift from the VR Bank Rhein-Neckar.

The VR Bank Rhein-Neckar's support for the competition is deeply rooted in their values of sustainability, according to Dr. Konrad Braun from the bank. Allotment gardens in Mannheim contribute to biodiversity, provide green spaces for relaxation, serve as social meeting points, and cool the surroundings in the summer with their greenery.

Prof. Dr. Diana Pretzell, the First Citizen of Mannheim, thanked the VR Bank Rhein-Neckar for their support. Approximately 800 guests attended the event, including Mannheim's First Citizen, Prof. Dr. Diana Pretzell, and Dr. Konrad Braun from the VR Bank Rhein-Neckar.

In 2023, the Sparkasse Rhein-Neckar Nord supported the Mannheim flower decoration competition and was involved as the main sponsor for the first time. Registration for the 2026 Flower Decoration Competition is now open at www.our website/flower decoration or by phone at 115.

The only condition for participation in the Flower Decoration Competition is that the flower decoration must be visible in a public space. The competition is an excellent opportunity for the city to showcase its green spaces and encourage a love for gardening in the urban environment.
