Artist and Curator Anna Holms Makes a Splash in Osnabrück

Meet Anna Holms, a talented art historian and curator hailing from the prestigious halls of Goethe University and Hochschule für Bildende Künste - Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. With a degree in Art History and German Studies from the University of Münster under her belt, Holms has left her mark not only in Frankfurt but also in Berlin, Bonn, and now, Osnabrück.

First Mayor and Director of Education, Culture, and Family of Osnabrück, Wolfgang Beckermann, expressed his excitement about Holms's new venture, stating, “I am thrilled that Anna Holms is joining forces with the city of Osnabrück. I am confident that she will breathe new life into the Artothek and bring a fresh perspective to the display of art in public spaces."

On November 8th, the luxurious Artothek, which has undergone substantial modernization, is set to reopen its doors to private and commercial patrons. The Artothek offers an enchanting fusion of art and everyday life, and the digitally enhanced collection will allow for a more immersive experience than ever before. Users will be able to view, pre-order, and virtually hang artworks in their own spaces via a special AR function, while selected pieces will be permanently displayed in the Kunsthalle.

To further invigorate the Artothek as a hub for art enthusiasts, two "Artothek Talks" will be held in December 2025 and January 2026, featuring discussions with local artists Kerstin Hehmann and Žana Vojvodić. These sessions promise to delve into the changes that have taken place since the Artothek's closure and showcase captivating works from the collection.

The modernization process has also expanded the Artothek's collection, with the Kunsthalle acquiring 15 new artworks in 2024. Notable additions include pieces by Osnabrück artists such as Kerstin Hehmann, Marion Tischler, Žana Vojvodić, and Regine Wolff, as well as Wilhelm Klotzek, Julia Miorin, and Sophia Süßmilch, who exhibited at the Kunsthalle last year.

The event calendar is abuzz with excitement, too, with a themed day on art in public spaces planned by Anna Holms on 21st February 2026. The day will feature lectures, panel discussions, city tours, and performances, offering attendees an unforgettable journey through the world of art in Osnabrück.
