The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is once again inviting local artists to join its community initiative, Carter Community Artists. Applications for the 2023 cohort are now open and will close on September 8, with the selected artists to be announced in late fall.

Launched in 2018, the Carter Community Artists aims to advance the museum's events, connect with practicing artists, and build a network among local creatives. The initiative invites four selected artists to collaborate with the museum on a variety of projects, contributing between 20 and 40 hours over the course of a year as they make connections to the museum's expansive collection, exhibitions, and history.

Last year, the 2025 cohort included North Texas-based Kristin Boyer, Dallas-based LaShonda Cooks, Fort Worth's Dizzy Orbit, and Javier Sandoval. The artists participated in numerous workshops and events, such as teaching creative entrepreneurship to Fort Worth ISD high school students and helping create zines at the Dia de los Niños Y Libros celebration in Fort Worth's Northside.

The Carter's partnership with local organizations continues to be a highlight, as stated by museum spokesperson Walker. In April 2022, Dizzy Orbit led mask-making workshops for young performers at Artes de la Rosa.

As for the 2026 cohort, the search results do not provide specific information about the participating artists. If you are looking for detailed information on the 2026 Carter Community Artists cohort participants, you might need to consult the official Carter Center website or their social media channels closer to the announcement date, as it appears this information is not publicly available yet.
