Asbestos Awareness Campaign Launched in Baden-Württemberg

The Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy and Crafts BW have joined forces to raise awareness about the hidden danger of asbestos in older buildings. The campaign, led by Environment Minister Thekla Walker, aims to educate property owners and realtor businesses about the risks and safe handling practices of this carcinogenic substance.

Asbestos can pose significant health risks, even in small amounts, when disturbed during renovations or demolitions. The Hazardous Substances Ordinance applies to private individuals as well, making it crucial for everyone to understand the dangers and comply with regulations. The Ministry and Crafts BW are promoting a brochure titled 'Asbestos in Buildings - The Hidden Danger', which sensitizes people in Baden-Württemberg to the issue and provides guidance on safe handling.

Property owners have a key role to play. They must cooperate with realtor companies by providing relevant information about the building's history. This enables professionals, such as those represented by Rainer Reichhold, president of the Baden-Württemberg Crafts Association (Handwerk BW), to assess and manage any asbestos risks. Vice President Thomas Bürkle and Karsten Lamprecht, other key board members, echo the importance of this collaboration.

The campaign emphasizes the need for proper handling and collaboration with trained realtors. The brochure and flyer are available to inform and protect both property owners and realtor businesses. By working together, everyone can help minimize the health risks associated with asbestos in our older buildings.
