The much-anticipated season at the Unterbacher See is just around the corner! On May 1st, both the Süd Strandbad and the FFK area will open their doors for a fun-filled day by the lake.

For sailors of all ages, two modern training dinghies will be available, providing ample opportunities to hone your skills or even start your sailing journey. Children and young people up to about 13 years old can learn to sail on the Optimist dinghies, while experienced sailors can join refresher courses or explore the extended course offerings.

The Open House Day at the sailing school, a tradition spanning over 20 years, will run from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the north shore. The school's entire fleet of boats will be put on the water, offering visitors a chance to try sailing for free.

For those who prefer non-sailing activities, there's plenty to enjoy as well. Visitors can test the covered panoramic boat or the party barge. The Lugger "Peter," a replica of a historical sailing boat from the 18th century, will offer pirate trips for children during the Open House Day.

The city of Düsseldorf is using this Open House Day to discuss the future of the Unterbacher See. The goal is to create a sustainable and long-term viable guiding principle for its development. A concept study is being created to design such a plan.

The public's feedback, gathered from May 1st, will be incorporated into a citizen workshop scheduled for May 19, 2025. The city team is seeking input from the public about what makes the Unterbacher See special, desired offers, and suggestions for the recreational area. Christian Zeelen will guide the Open House Day program, discussing topics such as the lucky wheel, demonstrations, and German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) information stand.

Tickets for the Süd Strandbad and the FFK area can be purchased at the day box office or online at www.unterbachersee.de. The opening hours for both areas will be from 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM daily.

Families can sail on the Polyvalk with up to 4 people during the Open House Day. For the most accurate and up-to-date information about the activities and events planned for the day, we recommend checking the sailing school's official website or contacting them directly.

So, mark your calendars for May 1st, and join in the festivities at the Unterbacher See Sailing School and recreational areas!
