Autumn Care Tips: Protect Conifers and Roses for Harsh Russian Winter
As autumn sets in Russia, gardeners are advised to take special care of their conifers and roses to ensure they survive the harsh winter ahead.
Firstly, it's crucial to protect young conifer seedlings. Their roots should be mulched to shield them from frost. Adequate watering before the ground freezes is also vital. Additionally, providing windbreaks will safeguard the young trees from harsh winter winds.
For roses, fall is the time to apply potassium monophosphate fertilizer. Dissolve 30g in 10 liters of water for both root watering and spraying. This will strengthen their root systems. In regions with severe winters, it's recommended to bend rose bushes to the ground and cover them with protective material to prevent branch freezing. This should be done after removing leaves from the bushes in early October. This signals the roses to stop active growth and prepare for hibernation.
Autumn care for conifers and roses in Russia involves mulching, watering, providing windbreaks, applying potassium monophosphate fertilizer, removing leaves, and protecting branches. These steps will help ensure both plants survive the upcoming winter and thrive in the spring.
