Join the "Hour of Backyard Birding" - Help Count Garden Birds with NABU and LBV

Time for Observing Avian Activities in the Flora Setting - "Bird Census at the Garden Hour" - Quantifying Garden Avian Population

Ever wondered how many blue tits, finches, robins, or sparrows flutter around in your garden or nearby park? The Nature Conservation Union Germany (NABU) and the Bavarian Nature Conservation Association LBV invite you to find out this year as they aim to track these common garden birds during the "Hour of Backyard Birding" happening from May 9 to 11!

Angelika Nelson, an LBV biologist, shared that this action focuses on common bird species that can be easily spotted in gardens, on balconies, or public parks. Keep your eyes peeled, and you might even get a glimpse of the "Bird of the Year" for 2025, the redstart, as it emerges from its winter quarters and hunts for insects in gardens!

To participate, simply spend an hour watching birds outside your door during the counting period. Write down the highest number of each species you see simultaneously, and submit your findings via the internet, an app, or mail. By joining forces, NABU and LBV hope to gather valuable insights into the current state of the bird world, complementing official population trends.

Don't miss this opportunity to contribute to bird conservation efforts, right from your backyard!

Note: Exact bird count numbers aren't guaranteed. However, the "Hour of Backyard Birding" event is crucial for understanding bird populations and guiding conservation strategies. Common garden birds like blue tits, finches, robins, and sparrows thrive in residential areas and their populations may fluctuate depending on local conditions and bird-friendly environments. Be sure to visit official event updates or reports after May 11 for precise counts.
