On a dreary Saturday morning, amidst the fierce winds in bustling Hong Kong, an intriguing crowd assembles along the Central Harbourfront. Despite the gloomy weather, these individuals are fiercely dedicated, embarking on their daily runs.

Among them stands the AIA Vitality Hub, a hub offering complimentary health and fitness classes. Today, a group of runners, age ranging from their 20s to beyond 60, have come together for an hour-long session led by none other than ultrarunner extraordinaire, Wong Chun-kiu.

At 40, Wong embodies fitness, experience, and a wealth of knowledge. As he gracefully trots out, stretching and running drills engage the crowd. "Harness the force of gravity as you lean forward," he advises, "And focus more on lifting your knees up from the ground, rather than kicking your feet back."

Even a glance at the soft-spoken instructor may not initially reveal the remarkable running accomplishments or the indomitable spirit fueling his extraordinary athletic endeavors.

In 2017, he ventured on a 1,400 km run around Taiwan, completing the figure-eight route in an astounding 19 days. The year after, Wong embarked on another gargantuan journey across Japan, covering 3,500 km in a staggering 73 days, starting in Hokkaido and culminating in Okinawa. Fast-forward to 2022, he embarked on a grueling 5,400 km journey across the United States, traversing from New York to Los Angeles in an impressive four months[1].
