Church renovation initiatives commenced in Ober-Roden parish
In the picturesque town of Ober-Roden, construction work has commenced on the grounds surrounding the historic Catholic Church of St. Nazarius. This project, which is part of the urban development funding programme "Growth and Sustainable Renewal", aims to transform the courtyard and garden area into a publicly accessible space by October 2025.
The renovation includes the redesign of the church's forecourt along Heitkamperstraße, featuring new tree plantings and improvements to the staying quality. The goal is to bring the approximately 1,250-year history of the church hill more into the public consciousness.
The project has been the result of long and careful preparation, as emphasised by Mayor Rotter. The plans for the renovation were created in collaboration between the parish, the "Local Partnership Ortskern Ober-Roden", the Diocesan Heritage Office of Mainz, and the city of Rödermark. The basis for the project is a concept by the architecture firm Rittmannsperger from Darmstadt.
The grounds will serve multiple purposes in the future, hosting cultural and festival events, parish gatherings, and providing quiet spaces for contemplation. Already, the west wall along the footpath between Heitkamperstraße and Pfarrgasse has been removed.
Approximately two-thirds of the costs for this renovation are covered by federal and state of Hesse funding, with the municipal share being around one-third. The design implementation will be carried out by the Office Kamphausen for Landscape Architecture (Wiesbaden) and the specialist company Reuter for Garden and Landscape Construction (Langgöns).
For precise details on the timeline, funding sources, and participants involved in the Ober-Roden church renovation, it is best to consult local parish announcements, the diocese involved, or municipal cultural heritage offices.
The redesign of the church's forecourt will not only offer a tranquil space for contemplation but also transform into a vibrant venue for cultural and festive events, thus embracing an other lifestyle, extending beyond the home-and-garden realm. The collaboration between the parish, local partnership, diocesan heritage office, city, and architecture firm signifies a new chapter in the courtyard and garden area's history, infusing the rich 1,250-year history of the church hill into a contemporary other lifestyle ambiance.
