The city archive can be easily reached from the main train station. Take tram 1 and 5, bus line 420, or drive towards the city center or castle, with paid parking available in the Schloss-Arkaden parking garage. For more information, you can contact the archive at phone number 0531 470-4719, fax number 0531 4704725, or via email at [email protected].
Opening Hours and Ordering Times
The city archive's opening hours are as follows: Tuesday to Thursday from 10am-6pm and Monday and Friday from 10am-1pm. Ordering times for archival materials are available on Monday and Friday at 11am, and Tuesday to Thursday at 11am, 2pm, and 4pm.
Digitized Newspapers
A list of digitized newspapers can be found on the TU Braunschweig's LeoPARD website. Some of these newspapers are already digitized and available on the PCs in the reading room and are not affected by any restrictions.
Restrictions on Certain Newspapers
Please note that the Volksfreund (H II: Z 2) and the Deutsche Reichszeitung (H II: Z 15) are not available for use until at least the end of the year. The city archive's internet archive of newspapers is currently only available to a limited extent due to preventive checks and measures for the "vinegar syndrome."
Barrier-Free Access and Restoration of Microfilms
Barrier-free access is available via the left side entrance. The responsibility for the restoration of the microfilms of newspapers in the Braunschweig city archive, which are limited in availability due to the "vinegar syndrome," lies with the institution managing those archives itself, typically the city archive or municipal authorities.
Accessibility and Parking
To reach the city archive from the main train station, use tram 1 and 5, bus line 420, or drive towards the city center or castle, with parking available (paid) in the Schloss-Arkaden parking garage. Barrier-free access is available via the left side entrance.
