City revives momentum: Bremen regenerates its pace
The Hanseatic city of Bremen is gearing up for a nationwide cycling event called STADTRADELN, which will take place from August 18th to September 7th. This year's event is organised in collaboration with ADFC Bremen and the BIKE IT! Radkultur project, and it aims to promote climate protection, a sustainable city, and community spirit.
The Bremen STADTRADELN is part of a larger climate protection initiative encouraging people to cycle as much as possible for 21 days to reduce CO2 emissions and promote sustainable mobility. Participants log their cycling kilometers for everyday trips, aiming to contribute to climate protection and increase physical activity.
The event is open to everyone living, working, going to school, or studying in Bremen. Whether you're a daily cyclist, an occasional rider, or a commuter, you're welcome to join. A "Open Team - Bremen" is available for solo riders, and companies, clubs, school classes, administrative teams, and political representatives are also encouraged to participate.
Participants can start their own team or join an existing one. The GFNY race in Bremen on August 31st offers additional kilometers and a sporting competition. Kilometers can be tracked via app or entered online, even retroactively.
The main prizes will be raffled among the most active participants, giving everyone a fair chance. Attractive prizes are available, including a night's stay at Hotel Munte Bremen, exclusive city tours, entrance tickets for Universum Bremen, practical and stylish BIKE IT! goodies like t-shirts, spoke cards, or smartphone holders for your bike, and more.
The goals of Bremen STADTRADELN are fourfold: to raise awareness for climate-friendly transport alternatives by encouraging bicycle use instead of motorized vehicles; to promote cycling as a healthy, sustainable, and environmentally friendly mode of transport; to encourage community engagement and collective action towards climate protection; and to increase visibility and support for bicycle infrastructure and sustainable urban mobility planning.
In 2024, the Bremen STADTRADELN was successful, with 280 teams participating. The teams covered a total of over 662,000 kilometers during the event, saving 109 tons of CO2.
The event will conclude with the "BIKE IT! Festival - Cycling to the Overseas" on September 6th and 7th. This festival will feature exhibitions, discussions, and interactive activities about sustainable mobility, urban development, and bike culture.
Participants in the Bremen STADTRADELN not only benefit personally from improved fitness but also contribute to a cleaner environment. The initiative typically offers recognition and awards to top-performing teams and individual cyclists based on kilometers cycled. Official events or celebrations acknowledge participation and achievements.
While specific Bremen STADTRADELN rewards are not detailed in the search results, the general STADTRADELN framework emphasizes collective achievements and local prize draws to incentivize participation.
