In the charming town of Dauin, Negros, the Stepanov family resides in a distinctive abode - a Tiny House situated on a sprawling 7,100 square meter coconut plantation. The family, comprising Dmitrii Stepanov, Nivy Mondaya, and their two children, have made this cozy dwelling their home since 2023.
Dmitrii Stepanov, hailing from Russia, discovered a passion for diving and underwater photography during his initial visit to the Philippines in 2018, which was intended to last only a month. However, the allure of the Philippines proved irresistible, and he decided to make it his permanent home.
The Tiny House, constructed on an elevated platform, was originally designed with one bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. The couple engaged a contractor to build the house, which took approximately four months to complete.
Mondaya, who grew up in the countryside, fondly recalls her childhood spent outdoors. This love for nature is evident in the tranquil countryside setting of their Tiny House, where the only sounds are those of roosters, cows, and the peaceful surroundings.
Initially, the Stepanovs planned to build a temporary Tiny House and later move into a larger one as their children grew older. However, they have since expanded their home, adding an extra room, a porch, and walkways around the house.
The couple's children, despite living in a relatively small space, have plenty of room to play, both indoors and outdoors. Notably, their younger child feels comfortable in a compact two by two meter room.
The Stepanovs' son attends a nearby private school. Despite their initial plan to rent out their Tiny House on Airbnb if they moved into a larger apartment, they have decided to continue enjoying the reduced housing costs that come with tiny living.
The Tiny House has withstood typhoons remarkably well in the two years they've lived there. The safe neighborhood, with no major streets nearby, adds to the appeal of their unique lifestyle.
