In the heart of Bucharest, District 6 is set to witness a significant transformation, as the local City Hall continues its work on the Phase III development of Liniei Park. This expansive green space, spanning over 9 hectares, has been identified as a key component in addressing environmental issues in the city, such as air pollution and the reduction of green spaces.

The Phase III plans, unveiled by District 6 authorities, encompass the development of four key parks: Lacul Morii Park, Grozăvești Park, the Park at the Serelor Militare (Ghencea), and the Park at Cora Lujerului. The designated area for this expansion covers 81,500 sqm, nestled between Valea Cascadelor and Lujerului.

Liniei Park, which has been hailed as the most successful urban regeneration project in Romania in the last 40 years, is currently under development. The project, which began in May 2022 and cost RON 15 million (EUR 3 million), marks the largest park constructed in Bucharest since the 1989 Revolution.

The development of the Park at Cora Lujerului, a long-awaited project, will follow after a significant period of obtaining the former industrial land. As District 6 mayor Ciprian Ciuc stated, this park will contribute to the overall expansion and improvement of green areas in District 6.

The current state of Liniei Park, located in Militari, is a stark contrast to its future vision. Filled with garbage, weeds, and parked cars, the park area is set for a complete transformation. The official plans include the addition of bicycle paths, basketball courts, a skatepark, a children's playground, a dog area, a drydeck fountain, hammocks, and bean bag chairs.

An NGO has pledged to contribute RON 7.5 million to the funds for Phase III of Liniei Park, while the estimated cost for this phase is RON 72 million (EUR 14,17 million). The exact new features planned for Phase III are not detailed, but they are likely to align with the city's broader strategy to enhance park facilities, landscaping, and improve accessibility to support the ecological and social needs of the community.

Currently, Liniei Park serves as the main gateway into Bucharest, with residents having limited access to parks. The entire railway line is set to be transformed into a longitudinal park as part of Liniei Park's development. Children often spend time on the boulevard in the area, a situation that District 6 mayor Ciprian Ciuc considers unusual, as it is not considered normal for children to stay with their parents or grandparents on the boulevard.

As the Phase III development of Liniei Park unfolds, it promises to bring a much-needed boost to the environmental quality and green spaces in District 6, contributing to Bucharest's ongoing efforts to address its environmental challenges.

In response to the Phase III development of Liniei Park, residents in District 6 can look forward to an improved home-and-garden lifestyle with the addition of new park facilities such as bicycle paths, children's playgrounds, and dog areas. The expansion of Liniei Park, including the Park at Cora Lujerului, will also contribute significantly to the growth of the city's green spaces, addressing air pollution and further enhancing the overall quality of life in Bucharest.
