Scoop
Dust, dirt, and construction! All a normal sight on the Theresa Square, but why so early? tz unveils the grueling work that goes into getting things ready for Oktoberfest.
Skylines and cityscapes: Florian Ehmann (22) and Florin Gadalean (51) scrutinize the Theresienwiese from their lofty lift, taking in sights from Bavaria to Paulskirche. They're the lighting pros ensuring the Wiesn won't turn into a pitch-black maze. "Installing street lighting for Wiesn," explains Günter Ehmann, the man behind electrical installation company, Walter Ehmann.
The electricians have been stationed on the Theresa Square for about a week now. Despite the Wiesn tapping being two months away, the team has already rolled up their sleeves to ensure proper illumination for the soon-to-be-closed pedestrian and bike path.
On Your Marks, Get Set, Oktoberfest!
June 30th marks the beginning of Oktoberfest setup madness on the Theresa Square. Not that you'd notice, since there's already a horde of workers, along with excavators, rollers, and trucks. Laying floor covering between the beer tents and actors’ street dominates the scene, while two significant areas remain cordoned off for extensive renovations. These streets are periodically repaired, in sections over time, to meet demand, says a city's economic affairs department spokesperson.
These repairs should ideally reach completion by the time the bustling Oktoberfest procession kicks off.

While the Ehmann electricians gear up for the real action following the setup's commencement, an astounding 150 masts ingeniously crafted for Oktoberfest will be their main focus. The innumerable fiber optic installations and additional duties complete this towering to-do list before the Wiesn opening in exactly two weeks.
"It's nail-biting, but we make it through that excitement," quips Florian Ehmann. Besides, he often casts an eagle eye over the Wiesn as a visitor, spotting countless behind-the-scenes details missed by everyday revelers.
Play it AGAIN, Sam!
A fantastic, new playground awaits the little ones: With a slated opening dates sometime before the summer vacation, construction is already underway in the northern part of the Theresa Square, near the U-Bahnhof station. Keyprojects include a substantial climbing apparatus with ropes, bridges, and vertical slides, a 12-meter dome offering an awe-inspiring view, and a wooden deck over the sand play area [3][4].
Stay tuned for the official opening date! But remember, it's set to grace the Theresa Square long before the summer holidays!
