Dolphins Generated High Bids at Recent Public Sale event

John Randall, in charge of the auction, successfully sold the 62 dolphin statues, sponsored by local businesses, groups, artists, schools, and community organisations, raising more than £40,000 on the night.

The highest bid of the evening was £1,600 for Fairytale, sponsored by TISE and painted by Dom Ogier-Keltie. Hermia, sponsored by Herm Island and decorated by India Waterhouse, sold for £1,250. More than 36 pre-bids were placed before the auction began, indicating a strong interest in supporting the charities.

The auction was not the only fundraiser of the evening. Volunteers from both the Guernsey Freemasons and Artex Guernsey team assisted with the logistics of moving the statues, ensuring a smooth and efficient process. Steve Byrne and Andrew Sparkes were present to assist with the auction and raffle, respectively.

The donations from the delivery service for the purchased dolphins will be added to the total amount raised by the Dolphin Discovery Trail. For a minimum donation of £30, the GSPCA can deliver purchased dolphins. The collection and delivery of the dolphins are happening at the Peninsula Hotel, with Steve Byrne on-site from 10:00 to assist.

The sponsors of the two dolphin statues that reached £6,200 and £1,250 were not specified. Bids were received from Cumbria and New York during the Dolphin Discovery Trail auction, showing the global reach of the fundraiser.

The total amount raised by the Dolphin Discovery Trail now exceeds £80,000. This significant sum will be divided between the GSPCA and Autism Guernsey, helping to support their vital work in the community.

The success of the auction is a testament to the generosity of the local community and the global support for these important causes. The statues, now available for collection at the Peninsula Hotel, serve as a reminder of the impact that collective effort can have in making a difference.
