Catch the Charm at the "Aal-luuk Mas" Exhibition* Yakutsk Collectors' Stash* Retro New Year Toys* Pushkin National Library

W ambulate into the Pushkin National Library's main building (2nd floor), and brace yourself for a dazzling trip down memory lane. Teresa and Julia Chavez, two Yakutsk-based collectors, have curated an enchanting exhibition of vintage New Year decorations named "Aal-luuk Mas."

This fabulous affair showcases a range of teknologi nostalgia, divided into various categories such as "Fairy Tale Characters," "Patriotism," "Agitation," and "Domestic Life." Among the dazzling display, you'll find pieces from the 1950s-1960s, like the iconic 1962 Santa figure. Some even date back to the 1930s-1940s, adding a sense of historical relevance to the collection. Most of these treasures are crafted from glass, with a smattering of cardboard items for added intrigue. Rest assured, this exhibition is just a glimpse of Teresa and Julia's impressive personal collection.

When asked about the origin of her collection, Teresa shared that it took around three years to amass this captivating assemblage. "The name 'Aal-luuk Mas' pays homage to the vitrines where the exhibition is housed, which are modeled after the sacred tree of the Sakha people," Teresa elaborated. The exhibit's painting is a beautiful creation from the 1970s by masters Afanasiy Munkhalov, Afanasiy Osipov, and Seksay Parknikov. The connection between the Christmas tree and the sacred tree symbolizes the festive spirit of the season.

Make sure to drop by before January 25 to savor the delightful sights of "Aal-luuk Mas" and immerse yourself in the timeless charm of yesteryear's New Year celebrations.
