Unveiled: The Debut of the New Appleby Line Library Situated at Bateman Centre - Brace Yourself for a Stunning Experience!

Expanded library at Bateman Centre, Appleby Line, has commenced operations; brace yourself for an impressive experience.

The New Balance Line Branch of the Burlington Library system, spanning a vast 16,000 square feet, has officially opened its doors to the public. This modern library, located within the Bateman Community Centre, is the brainchild of Lita Barrie, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) who joined Burlington from Hamilton six years ago.

Barrie's tenure has been marked by strong leadership and a committed team. The project, however, did not come without its challenges. Delays and obstacles were encountered from the beginning, but Barrie's determination and vision for the library never wavered.

Upon entering the library, visitors are greeted by three daily news just inside the front doors. As they venture further, they'll find meeting places scattered throughout the expansive space. One such meeting room is located a few feet away from the news, providing a convenient spot for discussions and collaborations.

One unique feature of the new library is an 'aquarium' that uses technology to display children's drawings of fish on screen. This interactive exhibit adds a touch of creativity and fun to the learning environment.

The library also boasts a fully equipped media room, perfect for movie nights, presentations, or group study sessions. Unfortunately, as of now, the portion of the Bateman Community Centre that will include Tech Place is not yet complete.

As for the first patrons to use the library, their identities remain unspecified. The first child to return books and the first person to use a monitor at the new library are yet to be identified.

In the room where young children are gathered for storytelling, the space is currently bare, waiting for the arrival of books and storytellers to bring it to life.

Lita Barrie's technology credentials are evident in the library's design. The New Balance Line branch is a testament to her vision for a modern, tech-savvy library that serves the community of Burlington.

James Dekens, Manager of Neighborhood Branches, was there to greet the first person to enter the new library, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Burlington's literary journey. Despite the uncertainties and challenges, the library's opening day was a celebration of community spirit and the love for books.

As for now, there's no mention of a coffee shop within the library premises. However, with the library's focus on providing a welcoming and comfortable environment, one can only hope that a cozy café might be in the works for future patrons to enjoy.
