Expansion of the "Kamchatka Fish" Project in Kamchatka Region
Expansion of 'Kamchatka Fish' Project Bolsters Social Support
In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the 'Kamchatka Fish' project continues to grow, now involving around thirty-four retail outlets across the city, Vilyuchinsk, and Elizovsky District. The initiative, which provides food support and leisure opportunities to disadvantaged citizens, has recently welcomed 'Petropavlovsk Bakery' to its roster, adding thirty-two 'Khlebushka' network outlets. The addition of 'Agrotek' store network, set to join the project in May 2025, will bring discounted meat products to the table.
The project's expansion will also extend to Ust-Bolsheretsky District and Milkovsky Municipal District. The fish line primarily consists of flounder, herring, pollock, and squid, with red fish set to return with the start of the fishing season. Discounted prices are available to all residents, with socially vulnerable groups enjoying even more affordable prices at 'Shamsa-Market' and 'Family Basket' stores.
According to Yulia Morozova, Chair of the Kamchatka Krai Government, the project is further strengthening social support for the region's population. Starting April 1, beneficiaries will receive a 20% discount on services at regional sports facilities and a progressive discount of up to 30% at cultural organizations.
While not directly referenced in the context of these surveys, the Barents Sea monitoring, conducted by Norwegian and Russian research institutions, is methodologically and logistically linked to broader fishery management. This monitoring, focusing on marine ecosystem surveys in the Barents Sea, may support fisheries expansion initiatives in regions like the Kamchatka Peninsula, known for its rich fisheries, particularly in crab and salmon.
The 'Kamchatka Fish' project, however, remains a separate initiative, focused on providing food support and leisure opportunities to disadvantaged citizens in Kamchatka Krai.
