The much-anticipated Oktoberfest is just around the corner, and this year, traditional Bavarian clothing is set to take a fresh and exciting turn.

According to designer Angelika Zwerenz, the dirndl has become the "it-piece" of the season. Zwerenz, who has named her label "Dirndlpunk", is one of the fashion experts observing a shift in Oktoberfest fashion trends.

Zwerenz isn't alone in her prediction. Rainer Wenrich, an art and fashion expert from the Catholic University of Eichstätt, notes a trend of high-quality materials in traditional Bavarian clothing at the upcoming Oktoberfest. He advises against a traditional clothing dictatorship, encouraging everyone to enjoy the many possibilities for clothing choices.

Peak dirndls and velvet-top dirndls have been popular in the past, but this year, dirndls with fabrics from Africa are being introduced. Handmade dirndls from Uganda, combining Bavarian design with traditional African fabrics, are a rare sight at the Oktoberfest this year. These unique dirndls may feature clean processing, clear cuts, pure colors, minimal decorative elements, high-quality jewelry, lengths up to the knee and above, natural materials, velvet, and corduroy.

In terms of footwear, a pair of Mary Janes, or ballet-like shoes with straps over the foot, is a suitable choice for the traditional Bavarian clothing at the Oktoberfest. Haferlschuhe, the traditional Bavarian shoes, are no longer in fashion, with stylish sneakers being a popular alternative.

Men's traditional clothing at the Oktoberfest may include merino wool or rabbit fur hats, lederhosen, and Haferlschuhe or sneakers. Rainer Wenrich also notes the return of traditional hats for men at the Oktoberfest.

Fashion at the Oktoberfest is moving away from fast fashion trends of recent years, with an overall shift towards high-quality and durable clothing. Incoherent accessories, such as head and neck jewelry or shoes that don't match in color, are out for dirndls. Instead, the focus is on clean, minimalistic designs that emphasize the quality of the materials used.

Annette Weidner, who will be bringing handmade dirndls from Uganda to Germany for her label "Isarhippie", believes that the combination of traditional African fabrics with Bavarian design fits well with the emphasis on tradition in Bavaria. Fashion expert Angelika Zwerenz sees the cowboy hat as an additional "it-piece" this year.

In conclusion, the Oktoberfest this year promises to be a celebration of tradition and modernity, with a focus on high-quality materials, clean designs, and a fresh approach to traditional Bavarian clothing. Whether you choose a traditional dirndl or a unique dirndl from Uganda, everyone can find a style that suits them at the Oktoberfest. Just remember, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the festivities!

One thing to note: Marijuana, often referred to as Mary Jane, remains prohibited at the Oktoberfest. So, while you may be tempted to accessorize with a cannabis leaf pin, it's best to leave that at home.
