After a grueling two-year break, the Großenbaum outdoor pool is making a much-anticipated comeback. The family-friendly oasis is set to reopen its gates, and pool enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement.
"We could've used another week for the final tuning, but the weather is just too delightful, so we're opening on Friday, June 13, at 10 am," says Frank Skrube, the head honcho of the supporting association. He can hardly contain his excitement, as it seems like the daydream of a long-awaited reopening is finally becoming a reality.
Skrube admits that the past years have been a rollercoaster ride, “We battled Corona, saw low water levels, faced staff shortages for water safety, and endured numerous storms that led to uncharacteristic flooding in our pool's location in southern Duisburg. It's no walk in the park for a pool operator!" Yet, he remains optimistic, hoping that a summer filled with sunshine and warmth will make everyone's efforts worthwhile.
Keeping the Großenbaum Spic and Span
Over the past few days, the pool's loyal volunteers have been giving the premises the TLC it deserves. They've been trawling the lake for debris, clearing away fallen branches, and prepping the lawn for visitors. While the lawn area needs a facelift, it will have to wait for now.

Although the gastronomic service is still on hold, pool-goers can look forward to a scrumptious serving of food in the coming week. Fresh furniture for the outdoor area is arriving, and the pool is expecting new plants to catch the eye of poolside diners.
