Nestled on the north bank of the Helford River in south Cornwall, the historic Trenarth Manor has been launched onto the market with Savills Country Department. With a guide price of £4.5 million, this enchanting property boasts a rich history spanning over 800 years and offers a unique blend of period charm and modern living.

The manor, which has been home to various owners including the Trenerth family in the 17th century and the Nicholas family in the early 18th century, boasts an impressive 5,900sq ft of living space. The main entrance is marked by a massive seven-foot-high granite archway, leading into a grand entrance hall. The interior features five reception rooms, a kitchen/breakfast room, a 17th-century refectory, and a principal-bedroom suite, complete with a dressing room and en-suite bathroom. The property also includes two further bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a one-bedroom 'granny wing'.

To the rear of the house, there are five letting cottages arranged around a former farm courtyard, providing an additional 4,900sq ft of living space. The gardens, wonderfully diverse and well-documented in Tim Hubbard's Secret Gardens of Cornwall (2023), feature a sheltered 16th-century courtyard, formal walled gardens, an orchard, a vegetable patch, a gravel garden with granite and palms, a bog garden, and a beech walk.

The manor house's Elizabethan courtyard and a large square block added at the end of the 18th century add to its architectural appeal. Early landscaping features of Trenarth's gardens include a lone Monterey pine and remnants of a 19th-century avenue. In the 1960s, a large orchard, yew-hedged garden 'rooms', terrace walls, and shelterbelts were introduced at Trenarth Manor. By the 1950s, the estate supported a gardening business producing cut flowers, with traces of greenhouses still evident in the restored potting shed.

Adjoining the main house is a one-bedroom East Cottage, currently arranged as a self-contained apartment, which could be restored to provide two additional bedrooms. Nearby, there is a derelict bungalow with planning consent to rebuild as a four-bedroom family home.

The sale of Trenarth Manor is being handled by Jonathan Cunliffe and James Toogood of Savills Country Department. For those interested in delving deeper into Trenarth Manor's history, historical records, local libraries, heritage websites, and private estate agents may provide valuable information.

The grand manor, with its rich history dating back over 800 years, offers a unique fusion of period charm and modern living, making it an attractive option for potential homeowners interested in the home-and-garden lifestyle. The property's diverse gardens, showcased in Tim Hubbard's Secret Gardens of Cornwall (2023), feature a variety of garden styles, including formal walled gardens, a vegetable patch, and a beech walk, perfect for those with a passion for gardening.
