Gathering spot for leisurely activities featuring a spacious area for waste disposal
In the heart of Schneverdingen, the city is undertaking a significant renovation project of the 40-year-old FZB leisure facility. Overseeing the project is architect Martin Menzel.
The renovation will see the FZB expand its offerings, with a multi-generation house moving into the complex, enhancing the leisure meeting place. The new occupants will reside at Auf dem Eck 2 after renovation.
The FZB's energy consumption and heating costs have been a concern in recent years. To address this, the renovated facility will be equipped with a ground source heat pump and photovoltaics on the roof, aiming to reduce energy consumption and lower costs.
The citizens' hall, a key part of the FZB, will undergo a transformation. Seating orientation will change to optimise the room, and a fire protection wall will be installed to meet fire safety standards. The hall will also receive additional funding of 1.8 million euros from the "vibrant centers" budget.
The renovation will also bring changes to the youth area. The wood workshop will be abandoned, making way for a media room for children and young people. The course room will serve dual purposes, hosting baby gymnastics during the day and serving as a backstage area for artists in the evening. The stage in the youth area will also be expanded, improving the view from edge seats and accommodating 110 seats in the sunken hall.
The café area of the youth center will see a shift, with a drink counter possible, while a disabled toilet is being set up instead of the tea kitchen. A classroom-like group room will also be established for language lessons.
The city is hopeful for a swift processing of the building application, aiming to start the gutting process at the beginning of the year. The renovation will also include a connecting building, adding 215 square meters to the FZB.
However, the renovation of the citizens' hall area faces an application for an increase in funding due to expected cost increases. The funds for the renovation of the youth area are already fixed at 1.45 million euros.
The FZB, along with the Old School, has been identified as the biggest energy guzzler in the city. The renovation aims to address this issue and contribute to Schneverdingen's sustainability goals. The city looks forward to the completion of the project, which promises to revitalise the FZB and provide a more efficient and sustainable leisure facility for all its residents.
