GGS Students Explore Duisburg's Culture and Climate in 'Streifzüge' Project
A group of 4th graders from GGS Marktstraße in Friemersheim have embarked on an exciting project, 'Streifzüge Duisburg', exploring their neighborhood with a focus on culture and climate. Led by artists Katharina Nitz and Tina Koch, the students are discovering their surroundings in a creative and engaging way.
The project is part of 'Hey du! Our Culture City Map' and is supported by the 'Our Children - Our Future' foundation of Duisburg Sparkasse with a €10,000 donation. It is managed by the SchulKulturKontaktstelle, which connects cultural education with social inclusion.
In September and October 2025, many primary schools participated, including KGS Böhmer Straße in Buchholz, GGS Albert-Schweitzer-Straße in Huckingen, and GGS Eschenstraße in Wanheimerort. The students explored their neighborhoods through photography, drawing, and storytelling, accompanied by artists.
A new series called 'Cool Places' was developed. Students use a thermal camera to find cool spots in their school environment, adding them to the digital Children's Culture City Map. More information and the map can be found at www.unser website.de/kinderkulturstadtplan.
The 'Streifzüge Duisburg' project has restarted, allowing school classes to explore their neighborhood or Duisburg's city center creatively. Through this project, students are not only discovering their surroundings but also learning about culture and climate in an interactive way.
