Greenery in Dreieich awarded Silver label for its natural urban environment

Dreieich, a city in Germany, has been awarded the Silver Label 'CityGreen nature-friendly' on September 18th, 2022. This recognition from the 'Communities for Biological Diversity' alliance honours the city's commitment to nature-friendly green space design and maintenance. The city's impressive score of 920, an increase from the 844 points in 2020, is a testament to the numerous measures implemented between 2020 and 2023 to promote biodiversity. These measures include the conversion of lawn areas into meadows, the intensification of de-sealing measures, and the introduction of climate-change-adapted tree species. Mayor Martin Burlon praised the efforts of the city's officials and citizens, while First Deputy Mayor Holger Dechert highlighted the collaborative efforts of the local working group. Petra Klink, a board member of DLB AoR, commended the project leaders, Lisa-Marie Schmandt and Sylvio Jäckel, for their hard work in implementing these initiatives. The award was given at the Darmstadt hunting hotel Kranichstein, with project leaders Schmandt and Jäckel determined to continue their successful initiatives and reach the gold level, further enhancing Dreieich's status as a city that values and protects its natural environment.
