Greifswald's Major Road Project Completed: New Infrastructure, Safety, and Greenery Planned
Greifswald's infrastructure news has received a significant upgrade with the completion of a major road project. The University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald thanks residents for their patience during the construction period, which has now concluded with the reopening of the road on October 2, 2025.
The technical infrastructure news has been modernized, with the renewal of the main water supply line and the laying of a new low-voltage cable. Additionally, 300 meters of empty tubes have been installed to facilitate future broadband expansion.
The roadway and sidewalks have been given new surfaces, and the parking areas and safety strips have been redesigned. For enhanced comfort and safety, 23 bicycle racks, twelve bollards, and eight new LED lights have been installed. The stormwater sewer was also renewed over about 250 meters and equipped with twelve new rain inlets.
The construction work was carried out by the company Tief- und Verkehrsbau Stralsund, in cooperation with Stadtwerke Greifswald, as a joint news project. The total construction costs amounted to around 970,000 euros for the city and around 75,000 euros for the Stadtwerke, with the municipal share mainly financed through urban development funding.
In addition to these improvements, the city has planned landscaping work for late autumn. This includes planting six redbud trees, around 150 large-flowered black-eyed Susans, and 60 yellow and red blooming daylilies.
The road between Wiesenstraße and Bahnhofstraße has been reopened, marking the successful completion of the construction news project. The city has invested in modernizing its infrastructure and enhancing safety, with more greenery planned to further improve the area.
