Guide to Composing Scripts within the Framework of the Red List Project
In a recent development, Roadmap Writers, a renowned platform for aspiring screenwriters, has announced a new initiative to provide free marketing services for writers whose screenplays have ranked in the top 15% of the Coverfly Red List. This move comes following the discontinuation of Coverfly's Red List service on September 1.
The submission process for Roadmap Writers is based on an honor system, with no payment or kickbacks involved. Writers can apply directly through the Roadmap Writers website, submitting their Coverfly Red List ranking screenplay, along with their bio, logline, tonal comparisons, and screenplay file.
Joey Tuccio, co-founder of Roadmap Writers, emphasised the importance of a distinct and visceral bio in getting requests. He also highlighted that this initiative is designed to create industry exposure and potential representation opportunities for top-ranked writers who lost Coverfly Red List access.
Tuccio has noticed an interest in more genre scripts and less dramedy, slice of life focused projects. He encourages writers with a "twisted, weird genre feature" to submit their screenplays. He also stresses the need for strong, concise loglines that clearly communicate the story and genre, and tonal comps that help reps understand the screenplay’s style and marketplace fit.
Writers with a strongly written bio tend to get the most requests, according to Tuccio. He also advises writers to ensure their screenplays demonstrate originality, strong character development, and clear storytelling, as well as adhering to industry-standard formatting and being under typical page limits (usually 120 pages for features).
Roadmap Writers is also offering a bio workshop to help writers write and present their bios effectively, focusing on their brand. The workshop, hosted by Joey Tuccio, was held on July 29.
It is important to note that there is no deadline for the bio workshop, and writers can access it at any time. Writers can also submit more than one screenplay to Roadmap Writers, but only those ranked in the Red List top 15%.
The Roadmap Writers marketing service team will follow up with writers to provide suggestions on making their bios shine. Roadmap Writers continues to accept submissions beyond September 1, with submissions expected to continue through October. The response time for submissions may be delayed, but each writer will be contacted individually.
For writers who submit with underdeveloped bios, there is an opportunity to submit a more polished bio for free. Writers are asked to only submit the screenplays that made it in the top 15% of the Coverfly Red List.
This new initiative by Roadmap Writers is a great opportunity for top-ranked Coverfly writers to gain industry exposure and potential representation. With a focus on genre scripts and a commitment to an honor system, this move is set to benefit many aspiring screenwriters.
