Guided Tour: Journey from the Abbey of Rommersdorf to the Dike

In July, the Tourist Information Neuwied (TI) invites residents and visitors to explore the city's rich history and culture through a series of guided tours. Here's a sneak peek at what's on offer.

On July 20, at 2 pm, history enthusiasts can follow in the footsteps of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen in Heddesdorf. The tour begins at the Raiffeisen memorial opposite the Roentgen Museum. Similarly, at the same time, a botanical tour invites visitors to delve into the diverse gardens of Abtei Rommersdorf.

For those interested in the Herrnhuter Brethren community, a tour starting at 2 pm on July 20 will offer an exploration of the catacombs and the entire Herrnhuter square. Another tour on the same day, the 13th of July, delves into the history of this community.

The Old Cemetery, a historically significant final resting place for many notable Neuwied families, forms part of the July 13 tour, which begins at 11 am at the entrance on Julius-Remy-Straße. The tour also includes a visit to the Old Cemetery's gardener's lodge and mortuary chapel.

The tour about Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen visits historical sites connected to Raiffeisen, such as the former mayor's office, his printing house, and his residence. One of the tours takes place on Sunday, July 13, and focuses on Neuwied's most famous landmark, the dyke, providing insights into the history of floods in Neuwied and the functioning of this impressive structure.

All TI Neuwied tours, including the new ones, cost 6 euros. Children aged 6 to 14 pay 4 euros. Children under 6 participate for free. The botanical tour at Abtei Rommersdorf costs 10 euros and requires a minimum of 15 participants.

Registration for all TI Neuwied tours, except for the botanical tour at Abtei Rommersdorf, should be done at least two days before the tour. For precise schedule, pricing, and registration details, it is best to contact TI Neuwied directly or visit their official website or local tourism portal.

For inquiries and registrations, contact 02631 802 5555, email [email protected], or visit the TI office at Marktstraße 59 during opening hours. The TI team looks forward to helping you discover the hidden gems of Neuwied this July!

In addition to the historical tours, TI Neuwied also offers a botanical tour on July 20 titled 'Gardening Delights on the Abtei Rommersdorf Estate', where visitors can explore the diverse home-and-garden landscapes. For those with a green thumb, consider joining the 'Lifestyle in Bloom: Neuwied's Home-and-Garden Tour', taking place on the same day, which delves into various gardening techniques and emphasis on sustainable living.
