Here are the latest updates for Wiesn 2025

The world's largest folk festival is set to return to Munich from September 20 to October 5, celebrating its 187th anniversary. This year, Oktoberfest 2025 promises a mix of traditional favourites and exciting new additions, making it an unmissable event for visitors.

New Attractions and Rides

Among the new attractions this year is the Montgolfiere, a children's ride that takes passengers up to a height of 8.5 meters. For thrill-seekers, the Sky Lift offers a panoramic view of the city from a height of 71 meters, complete with panorama windows. The 100-year anniversary celebration of the Russenrad, a classic Russian wheel, will also take place, featuring an old concert organ as a traditional fixture.

A new ghost train ride, the Ghost Cave, has been added for families to enjoy, and a new traditional stand, Weißbiergarten "Isarschänke", will provide a relaxed outdoor atmosphere for white beer drinking.

Culinary Innovations

Visitors can look forward to expanded culinary offerings, with the "Munich quota" now available without minimum purchase requirements on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. This change allows visitors more flexibility in trying local Munich specialties and beverages without the prior purchase constraints.

Traditional culinary and beer tasting tours remain popular, offering samples and cultural background for those looking to explore Bavarian food and drink in depth.

Cashless Payment and Transportation

Cashless payment options have been introduced in two tents this year: Armbrustschützenzelt and Münchner Stuben. At Münchner Stuben, cashless payment is the only option this year, requiring a card or smartphone.

To manage large crowds and limit car traffic congestion, it is recommended to use Munich's efficient public transportation, such as the U-Bahn subway lines, to reach the festival area at Theresienwiese. The prominence of nearby transit stops like Königsplatz (U2) and Olympiapark (U3) supports smooth visitor flow, although no new particular arrangements have been publicly announced for 2025.

New Music Competition and Traditional Attractions

A new music competition called "A Liad für d'Wiesn" has been held to promote Bavarian music and find a new Wiesn hit. Out of 115 applications, eight songs made it to the online voting for the new Wiesn hit. The first round of voting has ended, and the top three songs will be voted on again from August 2.

Traditional attractions at Oktoberfest also continue, including the climbable Bavaria Statue offering panoramic views, the long-standing Schichtl Theater with its vaudeville acts, vintage rides like the Krinoline carousel and Toboggan slide, and the Teufelsrad (Devil’s Wheel) spinning challenge. These contribute to the festival’s charm alongside the new features introduced for 2025.

In addition to these new attractions, a new Web2Wallet system from MVG allows buying a train ticket online without installing an app, using a QR code. There are now ten drinking water fountains with free drinking water on the Oktoberfest grounds, and two more have been added at St. Paul's Square and the Theresienwiese U-Bahn station.

The Happy Sailor ride, a classic carousel, offers space for 40 people with 20 rotating gondolas. The Sky Lift gondolas are barrier-free and can accommodate 20 people.

In summary, Oktoberfest 2025 features a centennial tribute to the Russenrad, new museum and tourism stands, expanded culinary options with relaxed purchase rules, and relies on established public transport infrastructure to manage traffic, while preserving its traditional attractions. Don't miss out on the opportunity to experience this unique and exciting event in Munich!

Transforming the home-and-garden of Oktoberfest, the Weißbiergarten "Isarschänke" traditional stand will provide a comfortable outdoor setting, perfect for enjoying white beer. To complement the culinary innovations, the new Ghost Cave ride aims to entertain families with a spooky adventure.
