"Holidaymakers chronicle their foul-smelling ordeal at an allegedly unhygienic campsite in Vendée"

The three-star campsite in La Tranche-sur-Mer, Vendée, has been ordered to close its doors by the end of the week following reports of unsanitary conditions and safety concerns.

The establishment, advertised as a fully equipped family campsite, has been criticised for its lack of services and poor hygiene standards. Images shared by vacationers show dust, dirt, and even cockroaches in the mobile homes, with a stuffy and moldy smell reported by some customers.

In addition, expired food and uncleaned ovens were observed in the restaurant, and the authorities have found conditions conducive to contamination in the food storage area.

The most concerning issue, however, is the presence of staphylococcus bacteria in the swimming pool, which poses a significant health risk. This oversight in maintaining the hygiene and upkeep of the facilities has turned what was meant to be a pleasant holiday into a disappointing experience for the clients.

The campsite management has declined to comment on the situation, but local authorities have demanded a municipal inspection following the signalments from the clients.

It's worth noting that other four-star campsites in La Tranche-sur-Mer, such as Camping Paradis Les Jonquilles, Camping Les Rouillères, Camping L’Escale du Perthuis, and Camping La Belle Henriette, offer modern facilities, heated pools, aquatic spaces, and various services, highlighting the region as an attractive tourist destination. However, no other sources report similar issues in these specific campsites [1][2][3][4].

This incident underscores the crucial importance of rigorous sanitary control, even in four-star campsites. As of now, no other known campsites in the same region have reported such problems [5].
