Revitalizing Panoramabad Wartberg: A Modern Swimming Destination by 2024
The city of Wartberg is set to unveil a major transformation of its Panoramabad swimming complex, with the project scheduled for completion in 2024. The ambitious overhaul, as announced by Oberbürgermeister Boch, Bürgermeister Büscher, and Baths Director Lutz Schwaigert, promises comprehensive renovations and upgrades to both the indoor and outdoor pool facilities.
The revamped indoor pool will undergo modernization, aiming to improve energy efficiency, enhance user comfort, and bring the facilities up to date. The outdoor pools, too, will receive an overhaul, with updates to pool technology, improved accessibility, and upgraded amenities. A key feature of the project is the installation of panoramic views, likely enhancing the aesthetic and recreational experience.
Sustainability and modernization are at the heart of the project, ensuring that the facilities align with current standards for public bath facilities. The project also includes potential expansion or refurbishment of related baths and wellness areas to cater to a wider range of visitors.
The winning design for the Panoramabad Wartberg was chosen from five entries by the Stuttgart architectural firm asp architects. The building will be a terraced structure with panoramic windows on the southern side of the Wartberg bath site, offering stunning views of the valley.
The indoor pool will feature a 25-meter swimming pool with six lanes, a leisure pool of 150 square meters, a course/swimming pool of 8 by 12.5 meters, a diving board with 1- and 3-meter platforms, a small children's wading pool of 50 square meters, and a "spray park" for small children.
The outdoor pool area will see the addition of a new non-swimmer pool and a new children's wading pool near the indoor pool. The operating building, swimming pool, diving pool, and 10-meter tower will remain in the renovated outdoor pool area, supplemented by a slide with a landing pool.
Lutz Schwaigert has set May 2027 as the tentative opening date for the renovated outdoor pool. The renovation of the outdoor pool area will occur after the construction of the indoor pool, ideally outside the outdoor pool season.
The first tenders for the project could be issued at the beginning of 2025. The city council's final approval for financing and construction is aimed to be achieved by the first quarter of 2024, but this may be influenced by the municipal election campaign.
The new indoor pool is budgeted at approximately 53 million euros, while the renovation of the outdoor pool is estimated to cost around 12 million euros. The interior of the building will offer a view of the valley, with the accessible, green roof featuring sauna outdoor facilities and an "infinity pool."
Mayor Peter Boch and First Mayor Dirk Büscher led the joy surrounding the developments of the Wartberg swimming pool site. A smaller outdoor catering area on the operating building will continue to offer "Freibad-Pommes," while an indoor catering facility will be integrated into the building.
Despite the challenges in bridging the deep divides between supporters and opponents of the "combi-bath solution," the project aims to revitalize the Panoramabad Wartberg as a modern, attractive swimming destination by 2024, combining structural improvements with enhanced user experience.
The transformative project for Panoramabad Wartberg promises not only improvements in the indoor pool's energy efficiency and user comfort but also modernization of the home-and-garden setting, with potential expansion or refurbishment of related baths and wellness areas to offer a lifestyle upgrade for visitors. The home-and-garden aspect will be further enhanced by the addition of an accessible, green roof featuring sauna outdoor facilities and an "infinity pool," creating a serene environment for relaxation and leisure.
