Discover the Rich History of Medicinal Plants at the German Medical Historical Museum's Garden Visit

The German Medical Historical Museum invites you to a special event on Tuesday, 19th August, at 12:30 PM. This event is part of the weekly Midday Visits series and is free of charge.

The event, themed "What's Blooming Here?", will take place at the museum's medicinal plant garden. This garden is a living collection that reflects the medicinal plants used in German medical traditions, spanning from medieval monastic herbs to folk medicinal plants.

Health educator Sigrid Holzer will guide the visit, offering insights into the historical uses of these plants and their continued relevance in modern medicine. The event will last for one hour, providing ample time to explore and learn.

The garden is home to a variety of medicinal plants, including yarrow, mint, hyssop, and tarragon, which have been long documented in German herbal traditions. These plants can be seen growing in the garden, and some are even used in museum-related products like in-house gin.

The garden is open to visitors free of charge outside of events, and it features elements that highlight traditional herbal medicine practices linked to German medical history. The event will take place in all weather conditions, so please dress accordingly.

We look forward to welcoming you to this unique and educational event. The German Medical Historical Museum's garden serves as a testament to the rich history of medicinal plants in Germany, and this visit offers a rare opportunity to learn more about these botanical medicines within Germany's medical history.

For further inquiries, please visit the museum's website or contact us directly.
