In the heart of Denver, Colorado, a new neighborhood bar named Semiprecious has opened its doors. This latest venture from award-winning hospitality veterans Mike Capoferri and Rahul Marwa, based outside of Los Angeles for the first time, brings a unique blend of design-forward thinking and a celebration of community to the Mile High City.

Located at 2839 W 44th Ave Ste 101, Semiprecious is housed in a midcentury furniture showroom that retains many of its distinctive architectural quirks. Large canted windows and a stacked-stone facade are just a few examples of the original charm that has been preserved.

The interiors and branding of Semiprecious were conceived by Denver-based design company Wunder Werkz, who have also become co-owners of the space. The design aims to be thoughtful and humble, using materials such as pegboard, white oak, tile, paint, and industrial fixtures, all elevated through their thoughtful application. Shades of oxblood (jasper) and cobalt (lapis lazuli) wash over furnishings and walls, while warm wooden accents temper the overall design.

The mood at Semiprecious is playful yet restrained, nodding to the mid-century stylings of 1950s New York drinking culture. Design elements draw inspiration from Le Corbusier's Cabanon de vacances, a tiny holiday cabin he designed in the south of France in the early 1950s. The bar top, for instance, is made from a faux marble surface created entirely from post-consumer appliances, reinvented by the Good Plastic Company.

The cocktail cultures of France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal influence the pared-back drinks menu at Semiprecious. The Guava Sour, a standout cocktail, is inspired by a classic Pisco Sour and uses a modified plant fiber instead of egg white, creating a plant-based cocktail with exceptional texture and depth of flavor. The drinks menu is divided into categories such as 'carbonated,' 'martini express,' 'sours et cetera,' and 'spirited,' alongside wines, beers, and ciders.

Semiprecious is inspired by the aperitivo culture of western Europe and aims to celebrate a convivial spirit grounded in its surrounding culture. Snacks at Semiprecious are unfussy and pair well with drinks, including olives, almonds, a rotating cheese selection, and a jamón platter.

Semiprecious is not just a bar; it's a design-centered and community-driven space that demonstrates its ties to the local area and its commitment to celebrating the surrounding culture. Whether you're a resident or a visitor, Semiprecious offers a unique and immersive experience that combines great drinks, delicious snacks, and an unforgettable atmosphere.
