Countdown to the Bavarian Forest State Garden Show: Seven days till the grand opening, andEnvironment Minister Thorsten Glauber (Free Voters) paid a visit to the show site in Furth im Wald (Cham district) to inspect the preparations. This event is set to be a spectacular showcase for Bavaria and the region, Glauber announced. A jaw-dropping €11.3 million in funding have made their way to Furth im Wald.
The 38th State Garden Show will persevere for a whopping 137 days, from 22nd of May to 5th of October. The opening ceremony will be decked out by Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU), as per municipal buzz.
Under the motto "Magically much to experience", the city promises to showcase exceptional gardening and landscaping skills, floral magnificence, a beehive, an array of artworks, craftsmanship, and delicious local cuisine. Over 2,600 shrubs, 240 trees, and nearly 150,000 perennials and bulbs have been planted for your visual pleasure. The show isn't shy about addressing climate change and water scarcity either. Approximately 3,000 events are lined up to keep you entertained.
A fiery red thread runs through the State Garden Show, given that the historical play "Further Drachenstich" is steeped in the town's history. Dragon-shaped flower beds, a dragon-blood-red bridge railing, a dragon's lair, and guided tours featuring a high-tech robot dragon star in the show.
The annual "Drachenstich" in August, with its age-old tradition stretching back nearly 500 years, is deemed the oldest folk play in Germany and adorned as an intangible cultural heritage since 2018.
The mayor of the town hall, Sandro Bauer, believes the State Garden Show is a massive upgrade for the municipality. It's an excellent opportunity to rectify urban misconceptions. The new, open park arena, which replaced the now-demolished festival hall, is one of the urban planning projects in the offering.
Initially, he couldn't fathom if Furth im Wald could hold a spectacle of this size, yet today he beams with pride at being the host. A sneak peek into the Czech Republic-themed exhibitions is promised, with information boards designed in both languages used in the region.
€11.3 million in funding for Furth im Wald is the grandest amount ever allocated for a State Garden Show, as revealed by Glauber.
