Luxury Villa Certosa, Once Owned by Silvio Berlusconi, Hits the Market for €500 Million

Rumours about the potential sale of Villa Certosa, a lavish Sardinian retreat, have been circulating since 2010 and 2015. Now, the property has officially been listed on the luxury real estate market, priced at an estimated €500 million.

Originally acquired in 1980, Villa Certosa was once known as Villa Monastero. Over the years, it has undergone extensive renovations, transforming it into one of the most remarkable luxury real estate listings to appear in the Mediterranean this year.

Located along the Costa Smeralda coastline, the estate offers numerous bedrooms and reception areas, making it an ideal venue for large-scale gatherings. The property boasts panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, large terraces, open-air dining areas, and a private beach.

Standout features of Villa Certosa include a private sea grotto with direct boat access, a Poseidon-inspired pool, a Roman-style amphitheatre, state-of-the-art wine cellars, helipad facilities, and a secure underground bunker designed to withstand nuclear threats. The estate is also equipped with advanced security systems and climate-controlled storage.

In 2004, the property was designated by government decree as an "alternative location of maximum security for the safety of the Prime Minister." Since Silvio Berlusconi's passing in 2023, the estate is now owned by his five children.

Although Villa Certosa carries a controversial past, real estate experts anticipate strong international interest. The estate has hosted a variety of celebrities and world leaders, including Vladimir Putin, George W. Bush, and Tony Blair.

Negotiations for Villa Certosa are currently underway, but no deal has been finalised. Speculation has emerged about interest from high-profile buyers, including the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, and the Four Seasons hotel group. However, there are no officially confirmed persons publicly known to have shown interest in purchasing Villa Certosa.

The estate is being marketed by Sotheby's International Realty in collaboration with Knight Castle Real Estate. Despite investigations into possible environmental violations, the property has state secrecy protections.

With its luxurious amenities and rich history, Villa Certosa is undoubtedly one of the most expensive private residences in the world, ranking among the most remarkable luxury real estate listings available today.
