Trader Joe's Expands Across the United States
Trader Joe's, the popular grocery chain known for its unique food products and affordable prices, is expanding its footprint across the United States. The company has announced several new store openings for late 2022 and early 2023, focusing mainly on the New York City area.
In December, Trader Joe's is set to open a new store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, at 200 Kent Avenue. This will be the third Brooklyn location for the chain. Another store is expected to open in Harlem in 2023, although the exact location and date have not been disclosed.
Trader Joe's is also planning expansion in other parts of the country. The store at 6400 Amboy Rd, Staten Island, N.Y., is another location announced by the company. Trader Joe's has also announced plans for stores in Holladay, Utah, at 1895 East Rodeo Walk Dr., and Virginia Beach, Va., at 220 Constitution Drive. Another store is planned for 1165 Needham St. Newton, Mass.
Trader Joe's currently operates more than 500 stores in 40-plus states. A new store opened in mid-June at 2530 Naglee Road in Tracy, California.
Other expansions are underway but scheduled for later dates or remain in planning stages without fixed timelines. Trader Joe’s is planning to open 30 new stores across 18 states, with many in construction or nearing opening. However, specific timelines for most locations remain undisclosed.
In addition to the physical expansion, Trader Joe's has also made headlines in the food retail industry. Progressive Grocer named Trader Joe's one of its Retailers of the Century, and the company ranked No. 29 on The PG 100, Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America.
Newsweek ranked WinCo Foods No. 1 on its America's Most Trustworthy Companies list for food retailers. Meanwhile, the 15th edition of "The I Love Trader Joe's Cookbook" was published this spring by longtime customer Cherie Mercer Twohy.
Meanwhile, competitors such as Amazon, Walmart, and Target are gearing up for July sales events with the best deals of the summer. Trader Joe's has not announced any specific sales events for the summer, but shoppers can expect the company's unique products and affordable prices to continue to draw crowds.
