New Yorker's Apartment Transforms into Life-Size Titanic Diorama

Sarah Boll, a 38-year-old New Yorker, has transformed her Chinatown apartment into a life-size, immersive Titanic-themed diorama. She has spent years collecting and curating items to recreate the iconic ship's interior and exterior. Boll's fascination with the Titanic is evident in every detail of her apartment.

The entryway sets the scene with brochures advertising the Titanic's voyage and a portrait of Captain Edward Smith. Metallic foil pools in the corners of the living room, reminiscent of the ship's grand opulence. The living room is a meticulous recreation of the first-class Veranda Cafe, complete with black strips along the walls, compass-rose tiles, and a plush white sofa. A wood-paneled wall frames a replica bronze cherub statue, paying tribute to the Titanic's grand staircase on A-Deck.

Boll's bedroom is decorated as a small, enveloping cabin with ornate wall panels and a trompe l'oeil porthole emitting a blue glow. The second bedroom is an abyssal tableau called the Sunken Room, featuring a gigantic underwater diorama with ship fragments, a violin, and sheet music. The unusable en suite loo is draped in Warholian metallics and glittering dance-costume fabric, with fluttering headlines about death tolls affixed to the walls. The main bathroom contains an inventory of film-related objects, including a life-size cutout of Leo DiCaprio, Titanic DVD and VHS, and various Titanic-themed jewelry and collectibles.

Boll's dedication to her Titanic-themed apartment is impressive. She has watched the movie over 500 times and produced various side projects related to the ship. After hosting a Titanic costume party on Saturday, Boll will dismantle the theme to prepare for her next immersive makeover, The Wizard of Oz.
