Nordic Union's Strategy: Uniting for a Brighter Tomorrow
The Nordic Pavilion, one of the main facilities at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, is a collaborative project representing Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. This impressive structure, modeled after a traditional Nordic barn, boasts a total area of 1,200 square meters and a height of 17 meters.
### Attractions and Features
The pavilion's architectural design, created by Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, emphasizes harmony with nature. It features a striking wooden structure that allows natural breezes to flow through, eliminating the need for air conditioning.
Inside the pavilion, visitors are introduced to sustainability-related future technology, with exhibitions showcasing initiatives from the Nordic countries focused on nature, lifestyle, and innovation. A circular rice paper screen conveys ambient temperature and aromas, creating an immersive experience that allows visitors to feel as if they are in the heart of northern Europe.
Cultural and lifestyle elements are also a significant part of the Nordic Pavilion. A shop featuring Nordic furniture and fashion brands, along with a rooftop terrace restaurant offering authentic Nordic cuisine, reflect the region’s philosophies on design and lifestyle in every detail.
### Schedule of Events
The pavilion hosts a special event called Nordic Metaverse Day, where it showcases leading innovations in AI, Extended Reality (XR), digital twins, and data-driven technologies from Nordic companies and research institutions. This event highlights the potential of immersive technology applications in various fields.
The Expo itself runs for six months, from April 13 to October 13, 2025, so the pavilion’s exhibitions and events are available throughout this period. However, the national days for each Nordic country will not be held at the Nordic Pavilion but at the Expo National Day Hall on specific dates: April 24 for Denmark, May 14 for Sweden, May 29 for Iceland, June 2 for Norway, and June 12 for Finland.
The Nordic Pavilion offers a blend of environmental philosophy, cutting-edge technology, culture, and cuisine, creating a comprehensive experience that represents the values and innovations of the Nordic region at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai. Additionally, images of Nordic nature and life are projected onto paper screens made from rice that was set to be thrown away, adding a unique and sustainable touch to the pavilion's visual appeal.
Authentic sweets made by Japanese pastry chef Ai Ventura, who lives in Sweden, are also available at the rooftop restaurant. The Nordic Shop within the Nordic Pavilion offers goods from across northern Europe, including items featuring the Moomins.
