Open Invitation: Explore the Hessian Biosphere Reserve on August 25, 2010
In the picturesque Rhön region of Germany, nature lovers and families alike are invited to immerse themselves in a day of exploration and learning during the 15th Rhön Hiking Day and Hilders Homecoming Festival on Sunday, August 10th.
The day kicks off with a wide variety of hikes catering to all ages and fitness levels, providing an opportunity to experience the unique beauty of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve up close. Special features such as yoga and mindfulness hikes, fairy tale hikes, and historical guided tours are available for those seeking a more unique adventure.
At the Hessian administrative office of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön, an open day will take place, offering fun and information for all ages. Visitors can participate in guided tours through the administration rooms and the biosphere exhibition, watch films about the biosphere Rhön in the media room, or attend presentations about the conservation of the region's unique landscape and biodiversity.
For those with a competitive spirit, a biosphere quiz is available, with prizes such as stargazing tours, guided hikes, and overnight stays in the Rhön up for grabs. The quiz is a great way to test one's knowledge about the Rhön and its feathered inhabitants.
Impressive land art photos and artworks by junior rangers are currently on display as part of an art exhibition, adding a creative touch to the day's events. For the youngest guests, face painting, crafting, painting, and a button machine are available, ensuring that everyone has a fun-filled day.
Parallel to the family hike and children's activity, there will be opportunities for environmental education and sustainable regional development discussions. A children's activity, where an insect hotel is built together, will start at 11 am.
Following the Rhön Hiking Day, a visit to the Hilders homecoming festival offers a chance to sample regional specialties, enjoy live music, and participate in a lively parade. The festival provides a celebration of the natural and cultural heritage of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve, making it the perfect way to end a day of discovery.
For a detailed and accurate program, we recommend checking the official website or contact points of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve or the Hilders municipality closer to the date of the event in 2025.
The Rhön environmental mobile RUMpeL offers an interactive environmental station, providing additional opportunities for learning and engagement throughout the day. Regional products of the Rhön brand are presented by Verein Natur und Lebensraum Rhön e.V., allowing visitors to take home a piece of the Rhön's unique character.
Join us on August 10th for a day of adventure, learning, and celebration in the beautiful Rhön region. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a family looking for a fun day out, or simply someone interested in learning more about the Rhön Biosphere Reserve, this event is not to be missed.
