Our organization is resuming the "yellow campaign" once more

Annually, unpicked fruit decays, a problem our organization seeks to address through the Yellow Ribbon program this year. The yellow ribbon tied around tree trunks denotes a message: this tree's ripe fruit can be taken for free, without seeking the owner's permission.

Our organization is resuming the "yellow campaign" once more

In the picturesque landscape of Regensburg, over 700 fruit trees stand along public cycling and hiking paths, county roads, and even in some municipalities, awaiting those eager to pick their own fresh produce. This bountiful harvest is part of the "Gelbes Band" initiative, a collaborative effort between the organization, the OGV county association, and the county's garden advisory service, launched in 2021 to prevent the spoilage of unpicked fruit.

The trees, easily identifiable by the yellow ribbons adorning their branches, are a testament to the initiative's mission of promoting awareness about orchard care and preservation. The homepage of Regensburg county (https://www.landkreis-regensburg.de/buergerservice/natur-umwelt/gartenkultur-landespflege/?aktion-gelbes-band-naschbaeume-im-landkreis&orga=163085) lists the exact locations, number of trees, and types of fruit to be harvested.

Orchards play a significant role in the cultural landscape, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity. However, it is crucial to treat these trees with care during harvesting to ensure they remain healthy and productive. The fruit can only be used privately and not commercially.

It is essential to note that not all trees along the paths are part of the initiative. Unmarked trees belong to private households, farmers, fruit and garden associations, or municipalities and should not be harvested without permission. Harvesting fruit is at your own risk, with no liability assumed for accidents.

The initiative, now in its third year, is more than just a chance to enjoy local fruit offering a regional taste variety not found in supermarkets. It also serves as an educational platform, promoting the importance of orchards in our environment and offering advice and events on orchard care and preservation.

So, whether you're a nature enthusiast, a cyclist, or simply someone who loves fresh fruit, the Yellow Ribbon initiative invites you to explore Regensburg's orchards and enjoy the fruits of the land. Happy picking!
