In the heart of Wiesbaden, the city's playgrounds are undergoing a transformation, ensuring that children can play in a safe and well-maintained environment. The ELW, or the Environmental and Leisure Facilities Authority, took over the responsibility for playground cleanliness from the city in 2020.

The ELW works closely with the Parks Department to ensure that playgrounds remain clean and well-maintained throughout the year. This collaboration is evident in the recent installations and repairs. For instance, a new play tower has been installed on Hauptstraße, while the play ship Eleonorenanlage and Alfred-Delp-Straße have received new play equipment. A carousel has also been added to Kochbrunnenplatz as part of the 2025 replacement purchases.

The playground on Brunhildestraße is scheduled for cleaning on Thursday. Two colleagues, led by Boubakar Azzaoui, use grabber tools to clean the playground, which takes about 25 minutes. However, weather conditions can affect the amount of work required for playground cleaning.

Every three months, the playground control team carries out an operational inspection according to DIN 1176 to ensure the safety of the play equipment. Defective components are dismantled and repaired in the workshop of the Green Space Office during the annual main inspection.

The ELW's primary focus is on ensuring the safety of the play equipment. All play equipment was found to be functional in the current inspection. However, litter such as cigarette butts, glass shards, bottle caps, syringes, used condoms, and dog poop are among the unwanted finds on playgrounds.

To promote cleanliness, the ELW has placed posters on eleven popular playgrounds as part of the "Clean Hessen" action. Once a week, employees of the Green Space Office check the condition of the playgrounds and perform minor repairs.

In 2024, a total of 350,000 euros and 635,000 euros were spent on repairs and replacement purchases for Wiesbaden's playgrounds, respectively. The ELW's dedication to maintaining Wiesbaden's playgrounds is evident in these figures.
