In today's digital era filled with countless wedding photos, it's peculiar to find a long-forgotten one. Such a gem was recently discovered by the Sterling Heights Public Library in Michigan. Tucked away between the pages of a donated book, they stumbled upon a presumably lost wedding photo from the mid-20th century[2].
The black-and-white photograph features a stunning wedding couple along with another couple, allegedly friends or witnesses[1]. The only lead about the individuals in the photo is a scribbled note at the back: "Frank and Josephine Ruggirello, Nana-Nono."
Eager to learn more about the mystery couple, the Sterling Heights Public Library took to social media[3]. Their search for the family led them to a Facebook post that eventually reconnected them with Sarah Ruggirello, a granddaughter of the wedding couple.
Tracing Family Roots through Social Media
With a sense of nostalgia, Sarah Ruggirello reminisced, "An old childhood friend who I hadn't spoken to in years tagged me in this post, and that's how I saw the Sterling Heights Public Library's post." Upon recognizing the last name, her friend queried, "Hey, are these family members of yours?"
For Sarah, the discovery was a delightful surprise, as neither she nor her father had ever laid eyes on the rare wedlock Evidence. Her grandparents, Frank and Josephine Ruggirello, exchanged their vows on September 26, 1953[2]. Sadly, Frank breathed his last in 2020, while Josephine followed in 2023, completing their 67-year union[4][5].
The second couple in the photograph was identified as the grandparents of the person who donated the book to the library. Apparently, they often used photos as bookmarks[5].
Sarah Ruggirello is now the proud owner of this endearing family treasure, planning to frame and display it as a heartwarming memory of her grandparents' love story[2][4].
