In the heart of London's Canary Wharf, HTA Design has recently unveiled its latest project: a 297-unit aparthotel at 3 & 15 West Lane. This development is part of the larger Wood Wharf masterplan, contributing to the evolving residential landscape of the area.

The aparthotel, designed for both short and long stays, offers a unique living experience with amenities such as lounges, co-working spaces, private dining rooms, a gym, and three roof terraces. The buildings, which include a mix of retail and restaurants on the ground floor, are situated between Union Square and Bellevue Place and mark the first in a new offering from CWG's build-to-rent arm, Vertus.

HTA's design draws inspiration from the lost warehouse architecture of the former Isle of Dogs docklands and the loft-style vernacular of New York. Predominantly brick with pre-cast concrete detailing, the buildings acknowledge their historical setting without pastiche. The interior design is inspired by Wes Anderson's cinematic world, featuring a curated material palette, bespoke joinery, fully equipped kitchens, and smart bathroom suites.

The development complements nearby Eden Dock, developed in partnership with the Eden Project and Howells. Union Square, located at the foot of the buildings, is a meanwhile space with a minimum lifespan of five years. It features a hard-surfaced events area, bleacher seating, edible planting, and an informal play space within naturalistic planting. The surrounding landscape supports biodiversity and improves connectivity across the estate.

The project offers views and step-free access via a series of long pedestrian routes, enhancing community engagement with a landscaped public square, contributing to a car-free neighborhood known as The Lanes, which features pedestrian streets and independent shops. The buildings have achieved BREEAM 'Excellent', reflecting HTA's commitment to sustainability.

The windows of the apartments vary in depth depending on orientation, helping to manage solar gain and maximize natural light. Openable windows eliminate the need for mechanical cooling in the apartments. The public realm provides active frontage and year-round engagement with the wider neighborhood.

This development is a testament to HTA's ongoing collaboration with Canary Wharf Group, continuing to shape the evolving character of Canary Wharf's Wood Wharf neighborhood.
