Rangers in Rhön Biosphere Reserve Promote Conservation and Education

The Rhoen Rangers, a dedicated team of conservationists, work tirelessly at the Wanderparkplatz Schwarzes Moor within the UNESCO Biosphärenreservat Rhön. Their primary tasks include nature conservation and environmental education.

The Rangers conduct themed tours to educate visitors about the local environment, fostering a deeper understanding of the Rhön's unique ecosystems. These tours may focus on various aspects, such as guided nature walks or specialized events like the "Edelkrebsführung" (noble crayfish tour). By sharing their expertise, the Rangers help bridge the gap between people and nature, promoting sustainable use and protection of the biosphere reserve.

In addition to their tour guiding duties, the Rhoen Rangers also engage in hands-on conservation work. This includes building nesting aids to support native wildlife species, such as birds, and mapping plant populations to monitor biodiversity.

On Rhoen Ranger Day, scheduled for August 1st from 12 pm to 4 pm, three tours will be conducted: one about insects, one about the care zones of the Biosphaerenreservat Rhoen, and one through the Schwarzes Moor. During these tours, children can learn about the habitats of local bird species while building nesting aids.

Sascha Heres will provide further details about the tours in an upcoming FFH interview. The Wanderparkplatz Schwarzes Moor will serve as the location for the World Ranger Day, where the Rangers will showcase their work and engage with the public.

By participating in these events and activities, the Rhoen Rangers promote awareness of the sensitive ecosystem among children, ensuring a future generation that values and protects the natural world.

  • The Rhoen Rangers, during their nature conservation efforts within the UNESCO Biosphärenreservat Rhön, also delve into the realms of environmental science, providing insights into the unique Rhön ecosystems.
  • Beyond education and conservation, the Rhoen Rangers also embrace home-and-garden practices, creating nesting aids for birds as part of their hands-on approach to preserving wildlife and biodiversity.
