Rockin' on the Coast: A Bold, Sensory Home Experience by Cameron Webster Architects

Seashore Haven Rocked by Unexpected Discovery

Short and Sweet:

Experience the sensory wonders of Rock Cove, an eye-catching contemporary dwelling on Scotland's Rosneath Peninsula, skillfully designed by Cameron Webster Architects. This unique coastal retreat defies gravity and nature, allowing you to immerse yourself in the salty sea air, the rhythm of the waves, and the ever-changing vistas.

The Fine Print:

Location, Location, Location

Tucked away on a decommissioned MOD land plot, Rock Cove challenges its narrow confines, taking inspiration from its rich maritime history and rugged surroundings to craft a modern home that's as tough as the Scottish coast.

Designing with Style

Rock Cove boats a radical design featuring a cantilever that precariously hangs over the craggy cliffs below, anchored by two V-shaped steel legs that whisper "boldness" to the world. The linear arrangement maximizes the breathtaking views, while the subdued rear facade ensures privacy and peace for the four cozy bedrooms.

Creature Comforts with a Twist

Out front, the living area embraces a laid-back, open-plan vibe, merging the outdoors with the indoors, and fulfilling your desire to feel the salt air on your face and the wind in your hair. With floor-to-ceiling windows and a sleek, steel-framed facade, you'll find it challenging to decipher where the house ends and the sea begins.

Materials Matter

The exterior of Rock Cove dons a rugged, weathered look, with Kebony timber cladding that turns a silvery hue over time, mimicking thetrees that grace the coastline. Basalt and quartz stone cladding ground the structure, ensuring it stands tall and proud amidst the crashing ocean waves.

All That Glitters...

Triple-glazed windows and a single-ply roof membrane keep things warm and cozy, while a fabric-first approach prioritizes high levels of insulation, airtightness, and energy efficiency. And let's not forget about the innovative air source heat pump that keeps things toasty!

A Winning Design

Rock Cove has earned the prestigious Supreme Award at the Glasgow Institute of Architects Awards. As the client so eloquently put it, "Rock Cove isn't just about the views; it's a rich, sensory experience that allows you to connect with the surrounding landscape and its constant ebb and flow of life. It's the epitome of a dream coastal home."
