Senior Citizens at BRK Senior Center Receive a Dose of Happiness from Visiting Alpacas

In a heartwarming event organised by the BRK District Association Regensburg, the Senior Centre Regenstauf welcomed the gentle and curious Alpaca Family from Danersdorf. The Grundner family, who have been breeding alpacas since 2017, were involved in the cooperation for this special human-animal experience.

The seniors at the centre had the opportunity to stroke, observe, or simply enjoy the presence of the alpacas. The calm and friendly nature of these creatures created a soothing atmosphere, contributing to the overall success of the event.

Interactions with alpacas have been shown to offer emotional support, reduce stress, and improve mood for seniors. The unique sensory and social experiences provided by these visits can foster joy, relaxation, and social engagement, helping to reduce feelings of loneliness and encourage trust-building.

Sandra Grundner, the breeder of the Alpaca Family, emphasised that alpacas do allow closeness with a calm approach. This gentle nature of the animals, combined with their natural shyness, makes them an ideal choice for therapeutic visits.

According to Christian Karl, the head of the house, the animal visit had a noticeably positive effect on the well-being of those present. The contact with the alpacas created a special atmosphere of calm and joy at the Senior Centre Regenstauf.

The BRK team expressed warm thanks to the Grundner family for their cooperation in making this event a success. For many seniors, the visit had a special emotional depth, providing a unique and memorable experience.

The Senior Centre Regenstauf's alpaca visits are just one example of how animals can bring comfort, companionship, and mental stimulation to seniors, improving their quality of life. Similar experiences at places like the Wanderlight Alpaca Experience have demonstrated the therapeutic benefits of these interactions.

Exploring various options for enhancing the lifestyle of seniors at the center, the notion of outdoor-living emerged, incorporating pets like alpacas. This could lead to a home-and-garden setup designed for interactions with these gentle creatures, offering an otherworldly sense of tranquility and joy.

To further capitalize on the therapeutic benefits for seniors, the center could consider organizing more regular pet-centric events, such as pet-friendly gardening sessions or outdoor-living workshops featuring alpacas, fostering a thriving home-and-garden community where seniors can engage and build relationships with their furry companions.
