In an exciting turn of events, Maja Delinić has been appointed as the Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Festival Neuss, set to commence on May 6, 2022. Delinić, a renowned freelance director, is no stranger to the theatre scene in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), currently working at the Theater Krefeld Mönchengladbach, Wuppertaler Bühnen, and Burghofbühne Dinslaken.

The new season promises to be a vibrant mix of traditional and contemporary approaches to Shakespeare's works, with a cross-genre program that includes theatre, dance, readings, and musical performances. Delinić's aim is to "put Neuss in a Shakespeare fever" by connecting the global and regional, inviting free troops, and state and city theaters from NRW in a global context.

Foreign-language productions will be part of the program, with introductions, lectures, or subtitles provided to enhance understanding. Delinić, with her extensive international experience and connections, is well-positioned to bring a diverse range of performers and productions to the festival.

The program for children and young people will be continued and further developed, with a focus on engaging those who attended 30 years ago and attracting new ones. Delinić believes in making the festival accessible to everyone and aims to bring it to various locations in the city.

Accessibility is a key focus for the festival. Venues will be made physically accessible to people with disabilities, and audio descriptions and sign language interpretation will be offered for visually impaired and deaf and hard of hearing audiences, respectively.

The festival will also offer a range of workshops and seminars, exploring the intersection of different art genres and providing opportunities for local and international artists to collaborate. Workshops and classes for children and youth on Shakespearean theater techniques are planned, as well as interactive and immersive performances tailored for younger audiences.

Dr. Christiane Zangs, Cultural Affairs Commissioner, considers Delinić's appointment as a stroke of luck for the Shakespeare Festival. Delinić, who has already found an apartment in Neuss, aims to be inspired by the city and its people and to inspire them through her work. The new season promises to be a memorable one, with Delinić at the helm.
